Dr. Joseph Cleaver is an internationally recognized expert and speaker in the field of Functional Medicine and the co-founder of Paradigm Wellness Medical Group Inc., in Dallas TX and Napa, CA. Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Regenerative and Functional Medicine, and a Rheumatologist his passion focuses on effective regenerative therapies in the treatment of joint arthritis, soft tissue, and sports injuries. Dr. Cleaver also applies his regenerative medicine knowledge and expertise in the field of advanced regenerative aesthetics designing individualized skin rejuvenation therapies that harness the patient’s natural rejuvenating substances known as PRP or growth factors. He has practiced medicine since 1990.
Having completed his fellowship with The American Board of Anti-Aging/Regenerative Medicine (ABAARM), he then achieved certification by the ABAARM in Advanced Metabolic Endocrinology and is a member of The Institute for Functional Medicine. Dr. Cleaver is a professor at George Washington University School of Medicine Integrative Medicine and a member of the teaching faculty master’s program in Integrative Medicine. Also, he holds a teaching faculty position at the American Academy of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine and the Metabolic Medical Institute.
Prior to opening Paradigm Wellness Medical Group Inc. in Napa and Dallas TX, Dr. Cleaver was an assistant clinical professor at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center. Subsequently, he joined the renowned Cooper Clinic/Cooper Institute in Dallas, Texas, a nonprofit research and education organization dedicated globally to Preventive Medicine. From 1996 to 2009, he conducted hundreds of clinical trials, researching the effects of lifestyle, pharmaceuticals, and nutraceuticals in the treatment of hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and metabolic disorders, weight loss, exercise, and longevity. As Head of the Division of Clinical Research and Human Performance Division at the Cooper Institute and the staff physician for the Cooper Institute personal trainer’s certification program, Dr. Cleaver collaborated on the continued advancement and improvement of the CCLS (The Cooper Clinic Longitudinal Study). This study contains more than 250,000 records from almost 100,000 individuals representing more than 1,800,000 person-years of observation.
Dr. Cleaver has authored and published research and textbook chapters, conducted NIH research, funded by Homeland Security grants, assessing the health and developing fitness programs for first responders and is currently a staff writer for several international sports and anti-aging magazines. Throughout his career, Dr. Cleaver has dedicated his career to regenerative and anti-aging medicine, and sports performance and sports injuries. While offering individualized regenerative aesthetics and skin rejuvenation in both Dallas and Napa, the Functional Human Performance Lab in Napa, he conducts VO2 max, metabolic efficiency point, aerobic and anaerobic threshold testing on elite athletes. Combined with functional sports nutrition counseling and sports nutraceuticals, he designs comprehensive winning strategies for cyclists, triathletes, endurance and ultra-runners. The lab also focuses on the prevention and treatment of sports injuries and osteoarthritis utilizing cutting edge regenerative therapies and Platelet Rich Plasma therapy (PRP).
